Terms and Conditions
1.1 Applicants must be female full-time or part-time university or college students studying STEM at an accredited US university or college.
1.2 Applicants must be enrolled or accepted as full time or part time students for the 2015-2016 academic year.
1.3 Applications from relatives of the Mediaocean WIT Marketing Team, Eastwick WIT Team, and the selection committee are not eligible for consideration.
1.4 Persons who are (1) residents of embargoed countries, (2) ordinarily resident in embargoed countries, or (3) otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
1.5 Applicants must be 18 years of age or older as of August 12th, 2015.
1.6 Applicants must be permanent residents, refugees, or qualified immigrants of the United States.
2.1 To enter, applicants are required to complete the online application form and submit a video to be considered. Applicants will also be required to provide any supplementary information and/or documentation as may be requested from time to time. Videos must be 30-60 seconds long and uploaded to YouTube and the embed code and link provided at the time of the submission.
2.2 Entries that are intentionally or otherwise falsified, incomplete, damaged or fail to meet basic requirements of a specified scholarship contest will be immediately disqualified.
2.3 All entries and videos submitted to Mediaocean and competition data shall become the sole and exclusive property of Mediaocean. Mediaocean shall have no obligation to preserve, return, or otherwise make these materials available to the applicant or any other. Submission of a video and application will be construed as the applicant granting Mediaocean permission to use, reproduce, edit, prepare derivative works of, modify, publish, or otherwise make use of videos submitted in any and all media for any purpose.
2.4 Mediaocean reserves the right to disqualify any applicant without assigning any reason thereof. Any decision taken to this effect shall be final and binding and not subject to any dispute or challenge.
3.1 The application process will open on May 18 at 12PM EST and will close on July 14, 2015 at 11:59PM.
4.1 Each application that meets the eligibility requirements will be reviewed by a panel of judges and the 10 best applications will be named semifinalists.
4.2 The final three winners will be selected by online vote, with the three top videos granted scholarship funds. The voting period will be open to the public on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 and close on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:59PM.
4.3 Votes will be collected on the Mediaocean Women in Tech website at wit.mediaocean.com, with one vote allowed per person, per day (every 24 hours). At the end of the voting period, the three videos with the most votes will be awarded the scholarship.
4.3 Notification of successful applicants will take place by no later than Thursday, August 13, 2015 by the email address provided at the time of application and on the Mediaocean website. Notification is subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the terms and conditions set forth herein. Successful applicants will be required to accept the scholarship terms within 14 days of notification by Mediaocean. If successful applicants fail to accept within 14 days, the scholarship payment will be forfeited and Mediaocean may, in its sole discretion, select an alternative successful applicant.
5.1 Applicants agree that any Personal Information collected in connection with the online application form may be used by Mediaocean for purposes of processing applications and analysis of program productivity. Additionally, applicants agree that this Personal Information may be shared with Mediaocean’s partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, licensees and assigns for the purposes of organizing and administering the scholarship. The term “Personal Information” as used herein means first name, surname, address, telephone number, email address and any other information applicants provide to Mediaocean in connection with the application. Applicants further understand that they may be contacted by Mediaocean in relation to internships, full-time job opportunities and other university program communication should they opt-in to receive them.
5.2 Successful applicants agree that Mediaocean may, from time to time, use their name and/or refer to their university in Mediaocean’s promotional materials relating to future scholarship programs.
5.3 Mediaocean agrees to respect the privacy of the applicant’s personal information per application form submissions. This information that applicants provide regarding university affiliation/personal details on the scholarship application is collected for the purpose of assessing the candidates’ eligibility to receive the award. Other purposes of information collection include administrative matters relating to the applicant’s application, administration of the program, corresponding with the applicant, statistical analysis, and compliance with legislative reporting requirements. This information may also be disclosed to contracted service providers that the company uses to perform services on its behalf.
6.1 The successful applicants are responsible for ensuring that they comply with all the applicable tax laws and filing requirements. To the extent permitted by applicable Law, all taxes imposed on scholarship payments are the sole responsibility of the successful applicants. All scholarship payments shall be net of any taxes Mediaocean is required by Law to withhold. Awards of the scholarship payments to successful applicants may be (at Mediaocean’s sole discretion) subject to the express requirement that they submit to Mediaocean all documentation that may be requested by Mediaocean from time to time to permit it to comply with all applicable tax reporting. In order to receive a scholarship payment successful applicants may be (at Mediaocean’s sole discretion) required to submit tax documentation requested by Mediaocean or otherwise required by applicable Law, to Mediaocean or a representative for Mediaocean or the relevant tax authority, all as determined by applicable Law. If a successful applicant fails to provide such documentation (where required) or comply with such Laws, the scholarship payment may be forfeited and Mediaocean may, in its sole discretion, select an alternative successful applicant.
7.1 Mediaocean shall be entitled to use in any manner the name, photographs, videos, and other personal details for publicity purposes. By submitting a video application, all applicants are deemed to have consented to the use of this information by Mediaocean in all media and agree to cooperate with Mediaocean in developing publicity and promotional materials and make themselves available for events.
7.2 If currently employed, it is the winner’s responsibility to obtain approval and consent to mention employer in media, publicity, and promotional items.
Not an offer or contract of employment
8.1 Under no circumstances shall the submission of a scholarship application or the awarding of a scholarship payment be construed as an offer or contract of employment with Mediaocean. Applicants acknowledge that they submit their application voluntarily and not in confidence or in trust. Applicants acknowledge that no confidential, fiduciary, agency or other relationship or implied-in-fact contract now exists between applicant and Mediaocean and that no such relationship is established by applicants acceptance of these terms and conditions.
9.1 The three best applications, as assessed in accordance with the Criteria above shall be selected to receive a lump sum of $25,000, net of any taxes Mediaocean is required by Law to withhold, (to be remitted directly to the university) to be spent on tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment required for the applicants' classes at their primary university.
9.2 Winners must select an accredited university or college before the award is granted.
9.3 Mediaocean reserves the right to withhold the award to any winner who no longer meets eligibility requirements outlined in section one.
10.1 Applicants agree to hold Mediaocean, its officers, directors, agents, successors and assigns harmless from and against any claims of any nature arising in connection with Mediaocean’s use of applicant essays in any manner in Mediaocean’s sole and absolute discretion. Applicants further waive the right to claim any damages whatsoever including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages. Except where prohibited, applicants agree that any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this scholarship program shall be resolved under the laws of the United States without regard to any conflict of laws issue.
10.2 Mediaocean reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the scholarship/grant program for any reason without prior notice.
10.3 Submission of the video essay and application shall be construed as an acceptance of the Terms and Conditions stipulated herein. Any breach or default by applicant of any of the Terms and Conditions herein shall result in immediate disqualification without notice.
